Local anesthesia is available for the surgical site, or if the patient prefers to be asleep Pro-Nox (nitrous oxide gas) is a great option. If the patient expresses feelings of anxiety about their upcoming procedure, anti-anxiety medication may be prescribed by Dr. Mahmoud to help them relax.
To manage post-surgical pain, if the patient does not wish to take analgesic medication orally for the days after the surgery, we offer an injectable lipophilic medication which can be administered directly to the area undergoing surgery. The lipophilic medication is a long-lasting pain reliever that works for up to 3 days. This often eliminates the need for post-operative pain medication as the pain typically resides after only a few days.
For three days after the surgery, physical acitivity should be avoided, and patients should plan their schedule to allow this time to be off work to rest. Driving is also not recommended. For post-surgery aftercare, loose-fitted clothing should be worn, and intermittent icing is recommended during the first few days to help reduce inflammation. Patients can return to their regular routines in as little as 72 hours, but proper rest is important during the first days after the procedure.
To ensure our patients have a smooth recovery, at least two follow-up sessions are scheduled after the procedure. Patients come in for their first follow-up appointment a week after the surgery, then again after four weeks.
